Hi,
I dowloaded the sync4j client from
http://www.funambol.com/opensource/downloadfile.html?file_id=sync4j-blackberry-1.2.4.zip

How do I configure my Blackberry client to sync with SW?

It asks me for the following;

user:
password:
homepage:

Gateway APN:
Gateway IP:
Gateway Port: (which is set to 9201)

Here is what worked for me. I've got a Blackberry Pearl (OS 4.2.0.69), and service through T-Mobile US.

The username is your user number. Log into Schedule World and look at the bottom of the Preferences page. There is a list of configuration options for the Funambol client. It will show your user number. The password is just your regular ScheduleWorld password.

The sync URL is: http://sync.scheduleworld.com/funambol/ds

Check "Synchronize address book" and make sure remote address book is set to "scard". Mail and Calendar syncing do not appear to work yet, so leave them unchecked for now.

Disable polling, disable "Enable SMS server alerted sync". Enter nothing for Gateway APN or IP. Leave the port alone.

Your blackberry must also be configured to connect programs to the internet. This means you have to have an APN specified in Options>Advanced Options>TCP. For Tmobile, you leave user and pass blank, and enter wap.voicestream.com as the APN. If other third party programs, like Opera Mini, Google Maps, or whathaveyou, are able to connect to the internet, then this setting may already be correct.

Now you should be able to sync!

Hope this helps.

Peace,
sam

In addition to what phidauex suggested above, which should certainly get you syncing your contacts with the Funambol client, I though I would add a little more also having gone through this recently.

I was also never able to get the calendar to sync using the Funambol client. I was doing most of my trials using 3.0.7 as that is the version currently supported by scheduleworld. I also tried 1.2.4 without luck. 1.1.5 is reported to work with calendar as well but appears to have other bugs. You can find this version if you do some searching.

I ended up trying out the Nexthaus Syncje client and I can say that it works flawlessly as far as I can tell. It syncs calendar, contacts and tasks without problems. It is a commercial product and costs $30.00 but they have a 14 day trial period and a convenient over the air install at http://www.nexthaus.com/bb/syncjebb.jad

There is also the Mobilecreek syncberry software but I was unable to find a free trial for that.

Anyways, to get the Syncje client working, in the settings enter your username, password and use the same URL as funambol:

http://sync.scheduleworld.com/funambol/ds

For the folder names with use "card" for contacts, "cal" for calendar and "task" for tasks. Note that these are different than the Funambol names. You can set auto sync if you want (which does work) but you should leave all of the other settings blank.

Like phidauex mentioned you will also need to make sure your TCP settings for the Blackberry are correct. I have Cingular and the APN information was already filled in for me.

I'm currently evaluating the SyncJE client, as you suggested.

Its actually working quite well! I had an initial problem with it duplicating contact entries, but after clearing my BB's contact database, and updating the Scheduleworld database, its been working since then.

I'm not normally a buyer of commercial software (I tend to go all Open, when I can), but I'm going to consider purchasing SyncJE at the end of the time frame. It works like it claims it does.

peace,
sam

cbusddc: thanks for the info. It helps a lot when other forum users chip in.

Glad to hear the SyncJe client works well.

Cheers.

Phidauex, I also try to use open source software whenever I can and I would certainly be using Funambol if it worked better. It looks like there are bugs and quirks for the Funambol client for other software as well. Mark talks about some of them for Outlook in another thread and in fact recommends the SyncJE client as an alternative there as well. I think as long as Funambol can keep its momentum it should eventually be a very nice product.

Mark, I am happy to chip in where I can. I think scheduleworld is an amazing service and truly appreciate all the work you do.

Hi all,

I tried also to sync a 7290 Blackberry with funambol.
I read your posts carefully, and understood that calendar sync doesn't work.
But sync error I encountered always dealed with "proxy error page"... (Orange French provider)
So I tried to disable Proxy on BlackBerry :
Choose Options -> Security Options -> TLS -> TLS Default
Choose Handheld and not the Proxy setting.

Since, calendar sync (one way tested SW->BB) seems to work with Funambol 3.07 on BB 7290. :D

PS : New in Scheduleworld use, It seems very impressive !

Hi,

I have Funambol on my Blackberry and it has been working OK. However, I am now getting an exception and I would like to look at the log file on the blackberry.

A month ago I found this web page that said "go to the home screen and press this and that button and you can see the log." Sadly, I have forgotten the incantation.

Anybody know how to view the syncml log (perhaps it is just BB stdout) on the handheld?

Thanks,
John

Prior to performing the initial sync on my blackberry, I was wondering if it is required that the BlackBerry contact, address, etc be removed so that duplicate entries are not created. Has anyone experienced a problem like this? I just wanted to know before attempting to synchronize.

Thanks,
Aaron

The Funambol client should do a slow sync the first time it syncs - which should merge the BB and SW address books with no dupes. It would be best if all of your contacts had a first or last name to ensure the dupe checking works.

Cheers.
