1 Interoperability - RFC Compliance

ScheduleWorld uses open standards and can participate in scheduling operations with any product that also uses open standards. The following sub-sections define which open standards are supported.

1.1 iCalendar

The IETF open calendaring and scheduling standards (RFCs 2445, 2446, 2447) are fully supported over email. In addition to email ScheduleWorld provides full SOAP bindings to support the custom manipulation of your calendar by any product writen in any language on any OS. The SOAP bindings are not public yet as they are still being worked on.

A list of some other products that use the iCalendar open standards: Exchange, Outlook, Lotus Notes, Apple's iCal, Mozilla Calendar, FireFox Calendar, KOrganizer, Sunbird, and Evolution. There are probably a lot of others and if you email us about them we'll add them to the list here.

1.2 SyncML

For SyncML synchronization interoperablity please click here.

1.3 WebDAV

Read-only WebDAV access is available. All ScheduleWorld users have their WebDAV calendar updated automatically every time they modify their calendar.

Some calendaring products that also use WebDAV are: Mozilla Sunbird, Mozilla Calendar extension, Firefox Calendar extension, Apple's iCal, KOrganizer, Evolution. There are probably a number of others and if you email us about them we'll add them to the list.

NOTE: The ScheduleWorld WebDAV URL is case sensitive. You can find your personal WebDAV URL by right-clicking on your personal calendar and selecting "Properties".

1.4 LDAP

The addressbook service is based completely on open standards and interoperates with a large base of popular existing software. You can find more information about the addressbook service here: addressbook.html.

1.5 VCARD

ScheduleWorld uses the VCARD open standard for contacts. Full import (VCARD 2.1 and 3.0) as well as full export (VCARD 3.0) functionality is provided. VCARD is the defacto standard for contact management and a large base of popular software has supported VCARD for a long time. You can find more information about the addressbook service here: addressbook.html.

2 Interoperability - Outlook

A lot of work has gone into Outlook interoperability over the years. A quick Google search on "outlook interoperability" shows ScheduleWorld as the first link behind Microsoft (Feb 2005). Working perfectly with Microsoft products is very important and all Microsoft compatibility issues are given a high priority.

2.1 Interoperability - A Simple Outlook Test

After starting ScheduleWorld, you can perform a simple bi-directional test by creating an event with an Outlook user as an attendee. You may have to create a new contact for the Outlook user. The Outlook user will see your new event as soon as the ScheduleWorld iCalendar email is received. You will see the Outlook reply if one is sent.

For copying your Outlook events into ScheduleWorld please see the FAQ.

3 Interoperability - Mozilla Sunbird

The Mozilla Sunbird is a standalone calendar application that can read and display (but not write) ScheduleWorld calendars. You can download Sunbird from here: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird_download.html

4 Interoperability - FireFox Calendar

The FireFox Calendar extension allows your HTML browser to view your ScheduleWorld calendar. Simply install the Calendar extension (found here) and subscribe to your remote ScheduleWorld WebDAV calendar.

5 Interoperability - Mozilla Calendar

Same as the FireFox Calendar interoperability above.

6 Interoperability - Yahoo!

ScheduleWorld can sync with your Yahoo! calendar by using the Yahoo! calendar import/export feature and the ScheduleWorld import/export to CSV capability. ScheduleWorld uses the same CSV format that Outlook uses.

For example, open up your Yahoo! calendar in your browser and:

Recently Yahoo has slightly changed their CSV format. After you export your Yahoo calendar to CSV you must then open it in a text editor and page wrap the entire document. On Windows you also may need to go to format, font, and use Kern. The file should import properly.

If you would like us to make this work a little easier please email your request to support.

7 Interoperability Failures

This section contains a list of programs that are broken in one way or another with respect to the open calendaring and scheduling RFCs and cause problems with ScheduleWorld.

7.1 Outlook ToDos/Tasks

Outlook only has the option to use open standards for meeting requests - not todos/tasks. Outlook can only participate in group todo/task scheduling with other Outlook users.

7.2 Apple's iCal Product

At this time (April 30, 2005) ScheduleWorld supports Apple's proprietary changes to the iCalendar specification and interoperates with iCal.

7.3 eBay

There are several errors in the iCalendar eBay generates for auctions. I have contacted eBay (March 2004) and even offered my services for free to help them correct the issues but I have never heard back from them. I will create a specific eBay translator if there is sufficient demand.
